The Appliance Dimensions Dataset
We measured 6,500 home appliances — refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, dryers, freezers and coolers from the ENERGY STAR certified-product database, enriched with manufacturer cabinet cutouts — and recorded the height, width, depth and capacity that decide whether each one fits. This is what the numbers show.
Download the full dataset (CSV) — every published model, with the height, width, depth, capacity and cabinet cutouts shown on its page.

What’s in the dataset
| Category | Models | What we record |
|---|---|---|
| Refrigerators | 4,584 | Height, width, capacity, depth class |
| Dishwashers | 714 | Width, depth, place settings |
| Washers | 378 | Width, height, depth, capacity |
| Dryers | 655 | Width, height, depth, capacity |
Refrigerators split into 438 counter-depth, 2,352 standard-depth and 1,794 compact units by fit class.
Most refrigerators are 30 to 36 inches wide
Across the 2,790 full-size refrigerators we track, width clusters tightly — nearly half fall between 30 and 36″, the standard cabinet openings. Anything much wider is usually a built-in or column model that needs its own cabinetry. But those round numbers are the openings, not the boxes: see how far the actual widths stray from the “standard” sizes.
The counter-depth capacity trade
Counter-depth refrigerators we track average 19.2 cu ft and reach 30.6 at the top of the range. The flush profile still costs capacity at any given width — roughly 4–6 cu ft versus a standard-depth model of the same size. The full breakdown is in counter-depth vs standard-depth.
How we measured
Every figure is drawn from the U.S. EPA/DOE ENERGY STAR certified-product database and manufacturers’ own specification sheets — never estimated or scraped from retail listings. Rear depth excluding handles is being added model by model; where it isn’t yet confirmed, we mark it pending. How we measure →
